The Blue Door is partnering with Saints Sessions to bring the OKC’s best live jazz to the best listening room in Oklahoma.
Sarah Maud is kicking off the first month of the Blue Doors Tuesday night jazz shows. Tickets are $10, and of course, the Blue Door experience is BYOB: the only thing they sell is music.
Sarah Maud is a singer and songwriter from the Tulsa area. Growing up, she heard several different styles of music, but found a strong connection to the emotional performances of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and recently, Gretchen Parlato.
At the age of 17, she began to focus on jazz. She began writing and performing with talented local musicians. In 2011, Maud began studying jazz under the direction of Vernon Howard at the University of Tulsa, having the opportunity to perform with renowned jazz artists such as Benny Golsen, Jason Marsalis, Walter White, Tim Ries, etc. In December 2013, she completed her first album titled “Better Things to Do,” a project of arranged and reharmonized standards and originals.
Since completing the album and graduating, Maud frequents Tulsa’s great jazz scene. Hear her at Hodges Bend, D’Vina’s, Guthrie Green, and The University of Tulsa among other venues. She can also be heard on recent albums such as Pat Kelley’s Sing Me Back Home and Dean Demerritt’s Red Dirt Improvisations.
