Blue Door Music Foundation

After operating for 14 years as a ‘house concert’ or as some would say a glorified hobby, I formed the Blue Door Music Foundation to get the Blue Door to the next level. For years I have run the Blue Door without any revenue except ticket sales. Now, unless you are a club where the wine and beer flow freely, it is nearly impossible to bring in world class musicians and pay all the bills that go with such an operation. Thus, Blue Door concerts now operates under the Blue Door Music Foundation umbrella. With this new status, we are poised to also be able to present workshops, seminars and other programs about the art and craft of songwriting. We also want to work with kids in schools, especially those who are disadvantaged. This is a goal we hope to achieve in 2007 and any help with these efforts would be greatly appreciated. I know Darden Smith, The Red Dirt Rangers, Alejandro Escovedo, Sara Hickman, Michael Fracasso and many others have worked with kids over the years and hopefully we can do more of this as we move forward with our foundation. Please help us anyway you can by donating or volunteering your time. Together we can make the Blue Door even better and continue to bring the best singer/songwriters to Oklahoma City on a regular basis.

NEW BLUE DOOR TICKET POLICY

AT THE DOOR ONLY

In an effort to encourage young musicians and songwriters to come to the Blue Door and learn from master players and writers - If you or a friend or family member are 21 and under, the price is $10 for all shows.

The Blue Door would like to thank the many musicians that played at the Building Benefit on April 12th... without them - obviously there would have been no show!  But most of all... a big thank you to everyone that donated money to our building cause.  While we still have a bit to go... we are on our way to getting things fixed and keeping the doors open!

KANE WELCH KAPLIN BAND
MONDAY, MAY 19 - 8 P.M.
$30
As songwriters, performers, innovators and founders of the influential Dead Reckoning record label, Kieran Kane and Kevin Welch have made a career of letting the song lead the way.  In the process, they midwifed a new genre of American roots music, blazing a trail for other artists to explore and develop.  Yet their modus operandi remains the same - to craft and compose with no goal other than to let the song realize itself.  In 2003 they joined forces with Fats Kaplin, the renowned multi-instrumentalist and "this generation's Ry Cooder", to create an Americana super group that makes music with roots parameters but in the spontaneity and vibe of a jazz recording.  Joined this time around by Kieran's son Lucas, "Kane Welch Kaplin" picks up where "Lost John Dean" left off - featuring an entire album of roots music gems from the pens of the original Godfathers of Americana.

MICHAEL FRACASSO with TERRY "BUFFALO" WARE
FRIDAY, MAY 30 - 9 P.M.
$20
It goes without saying that Michael Fracasso is one of the best songwriters to ever emerge from the Austin music scene.  One part bad ass folkie, and one part rugged roots rocker, Michael Fracasso harkens back to a time when great songs filled tiny transister radios and one could hear Roy Orbison, the Beatles, Motown and Bob Dylan in the same hour.  Fracasso has a similar appeal as all those artists: great songs, inspired playing and with a voice that few in Americana music can match.

JIMMY WEBB
SATURDAY, JULY 26 AND
SUNDAY, JULY 27
$35
Jimmy Webb is not only one of a handful of truly great American songwriters, he is a great live performer, storyteller and all around great Okie!  Jimmy has been playing the Blue Door now since 2005 and every year he shows us something new on songs both familar and obscure.  Come hear him sing "By The Time I Get To Phoenix", "Highwayman", Wichita Lineman" and many newer songs as well.  This is as good as any Blue Door show you will ever attend and should be required of every person who loves songs or wants to be a songwriter themselves.
